Say No to Development on the headwaters of Carruthers Creek!
In 2005 the province established the Greenbelt adding 1 million acres of environmentally sensitive land and farmland to the protected Oak Ridges Moraine and Niagara Escarpment. A total of 2 million acres of green infrastructure.
The headwaters of Carruthers Creek is part of 5700 acres of undeveloped land completely surrounded by protected greenbelt.
Learn more about the importance of Carruthers Creek Watershed from the TRCA website.
The Province is looking to add more than 24 waterways and wetlands to the Greenbelt but has not included Carruthers Creek.
This means that these unprotected lands can be developed leaving Ajax residents and businesses vulnerable to erosion and flooding downstream.
It also means that valuable agricultural lands for growing local foods will be lost to development.
Did you know that 9 out of 10 people support growing the greenbelt? We must educate ourselves on the long term implications of losing these sensitive lands.
We must stand together and work towards protecting this vital area.
